Skool Daze Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

Original A1: I've been toying with this one, but as it's in a high-muggle area, I think it's probably time to put it to bed. Thanks to all those who have visited in the 8.5 years it's been in place.

Geocache Description:

A fine view of one of Edinburgh's most distinctive buildings.

Edinburgh seems to have more than its fair share of public schools. One of these is Fettes College. The land was given over in a bequest of some £166,000 by Sir William Fettes from his Comely Bank Estate in 1836, and was originally intended for the education of poor children and orphans. The school opened in 1870 and initially was for boys only, starting with 53. As of 1970, it became fully co-educational, and some 670 pupils study there today. Alumni vary from the former Prime Minster Tony Blair to the actress Tilda Swinton, who attended in the sixth form.

The dramatic mixed Scots Baronial and French Chateau style main building was designed by David Bryce and completed between 1864-70. The soaring spire means that it can be seen from far around and is said to have been part of the inspiration for Hogwarts in the Harry Potter books. Indeed, one of the best views can be seen from the cache.

The cache should be easy to find, but beware of muggles. They are available at all angles at most times, so great stealth is required. At least you can camouflage your quest by having a camera to hand.

I have now changed the difficulty rating to 2, but am not 100% convinced that it merits the upgrade...
