On small poloninaYavornik, in old-growth beech forest.Near oldest still functioning Czech tourist hut in former Sucarpathian Russia (Ruthenia). Nad poslední fungující ceskou chatou na Podkarpatské Rusi.
On a forgotten polonina= hay medow on top of small mountain range of Ukrainian(Poloninske) Carpathians you can find untouched landscape out of beaten trail. Highest top of the Javornik 1021 m a.s.l. is still marked by wooden cross and old Czech geodetic stone made from basalt with inscription 1925 K.V. on N48 54.229 E22 33.450. Nice view to north to ukrainian-polish boundary of Bieszczady mountains. In good weather you can see Kremenec 1221m high mountain whwre Poland, Slovakia and Ukraina meets. To east you can see Ljutanska Holitsa (1374m), Pikuy (1408m) and Polonina Runa(1479m).

Former Czechoslovak Tourist Club had many tourist huts/refugees on the territory of Ruthenia betweet World Wars. Until today only one still serves to tourist accomodation. The wooden hut with stone basement was build 1934 by czechoslovak's volounteers.
In the time of hungarian occupation of Ruthenia during WWII the hut was used like base and training center for Hungarian Mountain Shooters army troops "Alpenkorps". From this time you can still find tranches from the top of Javornik mountain till village Sol /Sií in the Uzh river valley. Tranches was part of 3.Arpad defensive line against Russians i nthe WW2. But never real battle was fought here. This part of Ruthenia the hungarian army leave before the Soviet Red Army came.
On the old hut N48 54.924 E22 32.452 you can sleep in your own sleeping bag for only 50UAH - hriven (cca4EUR `09) in common room with 20 beds upstairs and 40 beds downstairs- "Matratzenlager" like in the Alpes. If you are member of any Tourist club (like Alpenverein) you can ask the discount. The Hut Keeper Michail Hanchak (mobile:+380-506729057) speaks ruthenian, ukrainian, russian and little bit german and understand also czech and polish very well.
NE from the hut you can find 75 years old scientific investigation plots of profesor Zlatnik from Mendel University, Brno city, Czech Republic. This plots was founded in virgin beech(Fagus sylvatica) forests to investigate natural processes in untouched ecosystems. Foresters and other specialists still continues investigations - so please do not disturb orange colour marked plots.
