Semper_Gumby: [green]Archiving listing to be compliant with the new Gwinnett County Parks & Recreation Policy. All stages of this cache have been removed. Thanks to everyone who has enjoyed this cache. It is a shame to see it go - signs of the time - equality for all.
Here is the change in policy:
Gwinnett County Parks and Recreation (GCPR) welcomes geocaching within several of its park sites. In order to better handle the request and provide the stewardship of our park lands, GCPR has developed a new policy and procedures practice for all geocaches placed within a park. This procedure will go into effect starting in June 2012. Until this time, we will not accept any new applications for caches as we embark on the deployment of our new system. The new cache system includes a permit application that, once approved, will allow the cache placement to be active for one year from its issue date. The cache can be renewed with a permit renewal application within 30 days of the current permits expiration. The fee for a geocache permit is $5 per one-year permit period.
In order for this system to be installed, we are requesting that any and all geocaches that are placed within any Gwinnett County Park be removed no later than April 30, 2012. After that date the cache will be removed by county staff and the cache owner will need to contact GCPR to pick up their cache.
The decision to move to this permit application system was to create a more equitable system whereas any individual would have the chance to place a cache in our parks system. In addition, the division is developing a Comprehensive Natural Resource Management Plan and within the scope of this plan is the goal to protect and preserve vital ecological areas that would be otherwise impacted from recreational pursuits.
