Geocache Description:

This is a micro container hidden within a piece of art on the grounds of the United States Sports Academy in Daphne, AL. It is very easy to find and navigate to, we wanted cachers to come see this Academy and all the great artwork on and within the premise. Please be respectful of the Academy and it's employees.

The United States Sports Academy is an independent, non-profit, accredited, special mission sports university created to serve the nation and the world with programs in instruction, research and service. The role of the Academy is to prepare men and women for careers in the profession of sports.
The American Sport Art Museum and Archives (ASAMA), a division of the United States Sports Academy is dedicated to the preservation of sports history, art and literature. Founded in 1984, ASAMA has recognized the importance of the cultural connectivity of athletic competition and artistic expression since its inception. The ASAMA collection preserves the performance and movement of man by creating an awareness of the role art mediums play in captivating our sports heroes and perpetuating their performances for posterity.
Located in the main building of the Academy’s architecturally acclaimed campus, ASAMA currently houses what is believed to be the largest collection of sport art in the world containing over 1,500 pieces of art in a variety of mediums including: paintings, sculptures, prints, posters, photography and assemblages.
Expanding past the interior, a number of sport sculptures make the Academy’s exterior as much of a destination as the exhibits inside including the most recent addition by Bruce Larsen the Academy’s 2009 Sport Artist of the Year, titled “Nastia the Gymnast.”
Also featured is the largest public art offering in the state of Alabama: the famed two story tall mural by Maestro Cristobal Gabarron entitled, "A Tribute to the Human Spirit," which graces one wall of the main campus and has become a landmark on the Eastern Shore.
ASAMA’s gallery features showings of renowned sport artists from around the world, which has provided resident students the unparalleled pleasure of studying in classrooms, hallways, and offices filled with some of the most prestigious works of sport art available. Open to the public free of charge, Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., ASAMA welcomes the world to gain insight into the special nature of sport art with its intensity, its action, and its life.
