Geocache Description:

Church Micro 909...Elmsted

Yet another of the excellent Church Micro series.This cache is just outside Church grounds.

St.James the Great at Elmsted is located about 160 meters above sea level in a romote rural location.
Earliest reference to a church in Elmsted comes from the Canterbury monks Domesday Monachorum of c1100 a record from Archbishop Lanfrancs time (1070-1089).This church has an unusual wooden belfry which was added in the 14th century. It still has its basic Norman design inside, but the church has been extended several times over the years.
In the church grounds many of the grave stones have been removed and placed along the boundery fence in a sensitive maner to aid matainence of the church yard.The church was open when I placed the cache and is well worth a look inside.
Look out for the Lama in the field across the road.
PLEASE TAKE CARE WHILST DRIVING ALONG THE COUNTRY LANES. THERE ARE MANY STABLES IN THE AREA AND THE HORSES ARE OFTEN ON THE ROAD!
