Off Independence Blvd. tucked away in an area few people notice. Short from the nearest parking and it's a fairly easy walk.
This is the third of my "Land of What Once Was" series. The widening of Independence Boulevard was a major urban reconstruction project that combined virtually all elements of transportation planning and design. The existing 4-lane road was widened to an 8-lane divided arterial capable of carrying 70,000 vehicles a day. This area was once filled with homes before progress and a need for the expansion of Independence Boulevard resulted in removal of a nearly a mile of homes in this area.
Parking on street at: N 36 51.339 / W 076 08.114 in the same plaza as Pembroke Pizza.
Take a walk down the sidewalk along one of the busiest roadways in the area, then step from the mainstream to an area less travelled. Waypoint is a tree at N 36 51.370 / W 076 08.092 (distance from parking to tree is about 209 feet via sidewalk or maintained grass covering flat terrain). And that's where it gets weird as you move past the tree toward GZ you will find yourself walking into a bamboo forest that has been growing since the houses here were removed about six years ago. Yes, a bamboo forest -- you'll see what I mean when you get there but it will leave you wondering if you are in fact in Virginia Beach. This is a pretty well camouflaged smaller sized container with lots of goodies including a FTF Pathtag and a trackable.
