Lookout Ridge is a unnamed ridge in the Las Vegas area. This is
not one of my cryptic geocaches. Depending on where you start
hiking it could take you as little as 2.5 hours to reach the
geocache. A series of complex ridges and rugged cliffs make it a
tad challenging. No special climbing gear is required, just a set
of good hiking boots. I would definitely recommend that you take
several waypoints along the way to reduce the chances of going down
the wrong ridge on the way back.
Things to think about when you do travel to the site: Take
enough water for the hike. Be aware that you will get scratched up
from the vegetation. The geocache is located in a green metal ammo
box covered by a layer of rocks. The cache is very limited, nothing
over $3 value. So please don't exchange an item with any currency,
this is not Walmart.
This site is situated in the Spring Mountain Range, mountain
lions may exist in the area. The south side of the initial ridge
has a few mines that are basically a straight shaft that you
wouldn't want to accidentally fall in. No fencing secures or
identifies these holes, but you can tell from the piles of tailings
in front of the holes. Stay clear, if you fall in, you're not going
to be able to climb back up even if you survive the fall.
