Geocache Description:

Listed coordinates are very close to historic marker which you will need to read to get information for final cache.

Civil Rights Crimes are an unfortunate part of our local history. However, with the help and understanding of some of the people who sacrificed their lives for the betterment of us all, we can gain an understanding of tolerance. One of these men was Lt. Col. Lemuel Penn, an officer who was killed by local Klansmen. His death was not in vain and though tragic, helped to further the cause of the Civil Rights legislation in America. To honor and memorialize Lt. Col. Penn, you must use information from a Georgia Historic Marker to obtain the coordinates to locate a cache placed nearby in his memory. This historic marker is a recent addition to Madison (Cache) County and is one that was long over due. To obtain final coordinates for the prize cache, follow these directions:

There are two dates listed on the historic marker. One lists the year of Lt. Col. Penn’s death, The second date lists the year of the U.S. Justice Departments Civil Rights Act, of which Lt. Co. Penn’s death was able to bring about. Here’s what to do.

Take the year of his death and add 7441 to get the first set of coordinates.
(year+Number listed = ABCD)

Take the second date, Civil Rights Act and add 3062 to get the second set of coordinates.
(year+Number listed = EFGH)

Location of the final cache is :
N34 0A.BCD W083 0E.FGH

Please stay parked on the side of the road as the historical marker. There is a dirt road nearby and you can park there. This highway can at times be busy. Also, take a minute to reflect on how much times have changed. Happy Hunting!
