Suðurland 1 - The hidden treasure in the waterfall
How Geocaching Works
Use of geocaching.com services is subject to the terms and conditions in our disclaimer
There are existing 3 different series of caches in Iceland ( Nordurland, Vesturland and Sudurland ). Each serie has 4 different caches ( Nordurland has 5 ) and in one of each serie you'll find in the logbook a number which leeds you to a Bonuscache ( Team Hekla Bonus Cache ) in Iceland. This Cache is one of the Sudurland Series in South Iceland. This micro cache is situated on the top of the Skogarfoss just beside the hiking path up to Fimmfördurhals..
It contains just a logbook.
There is an old saga about the hidden treasure in the waterfall. Prasi has hidden his gold more than 1000 years ago behind the waterfall. The gold was never found only the ring from the treasure chest, which is now in the museum close to the waterfall. So when you approach the waterfall you still can see the gold :-)
The cache is close to the hiking trail to Fimmfördurhals just on the top of the waterfall a few meters after crossing the fence.
The cache will be maintained from us, because we are often during the year in iceland for visiting our friends, and if we are not able our friends try to help us to maintain it, like the others from the series.
This geocache is also within the boundaries of Katla Geopark Project
We welcome you
