Just along the A823 near Knockhill racing circuit. Easy to find cache, easy to park site and a former secret military site. What more could you want!
A regular cache container, containing the log, pencil, pirate popper, padlock, silica and an "FTF" pin badge, for Geoarab, who got there first!
This somewhat forlorn looking site used to be a critical component in the Royal Air Force Secure Survivable Integrated Network. Called UNITER, it was an example of early Private Finance Initiative work. Marconi Integrated Systems developed much of the project, instead of relying entirely on enlisted forces staff.
With the end of the cold war and various defence reviews the size and structure of all communications networks within the UK defence establishment underwent reductions.
This site was listed for sale to private owners in 2008, and in 2009 it would appear to have changed hands to an unspecified new owner, who, to date, seems to have done little if anything with the site.
The secure site itself is fenced off, but the area around it seems to be fairly open (i.e there has been no effort to stop you just walking next to the barrier stopping vehicles), however it should be noted this area is used for forestry.
