Geocache Description:

On the south side of a bend in the River Eden apprx 1km east of Langwathby Bridge. A small plastic box containing a log book, pencil and sharpener.

The cache is on a well-trodden footpath alongside the Eden between Edenhall and Langwathby and very near one of the ten Eden Benchmark Sculptures which also function as seats.

This one is 'South Rising' by Vivien Monsdell and can be reached either from the end of the path by Edenhall Church (itself worth a visit - but why was it built in the middle of nowhere ) or alternatively from the small parking area on the south side of the river at Langwathby Bridge (see additional Waymark).

Although the cache is easily accessible from the path, take care as there's quite a drop to the river. If you have time, visit Little Salkeld Flour Mill which is still operating with grind-stones, and the café there does excellent food and sells lots of goodies food-wise. A very informative website for the Mill can be found at (visit link)
The Eden Benchmarks were commissioned by the East Cumbria Countryside Project to celebrate the new millennium. Each by a different artist, they’ve been installed at various locations beside public paths along the entire length of the river Eden. The artists’ brief was to produce sculptures that harmonised with the landscape and captured the essence of each locality. The first is 'Water Cut' by Mary Bourne, located close to the source of the river at Mallerstang. The other nine are at Kirkby Stephen, Temple Sowerby, Appleby, Lazonby, Armathwaite, Wetheral, Bitts Park in Carlisle and Rockliffe, close to the mouth of the river.
