Geocache Description:

Fosters Leap - Wycoller

Fosters Leap is a well known rock formation just outside Wycoller. Foster Cunliffe a relative of the Cunliffe’s of Wycoller Hall (the Brontes Ferndean Manor) achieved fame by jumping it- sometimes allegedly on horseback. The latter would indeed be no mean feat but as the gap is under 6 feet now and is probably expanding slightly decade by decade its hardly anything to write home about – I did it in my fifties and one of the pics is of my grandson doing it this year – he had to do it three times each way before I managed to catch him in mid air!

Regardless it’s a pretty spot best reached from the Laneshawbridge – Haworth road Panopticon car park (the Pendle Atom - GC13CEC – if you haven’t already got it) but a little further on towards Yorkshire there is rough roadside parking almost on top of the cache.

The rocks can be found in the Yorkshire Grit Bouldering guide and contain a few hard problems but its unlikely that you’ll meet any climbers there and the cache is away from their climbing area on the extreme right of the formation.

As with all the Pennine moorland caches I need hardly tell you that it is hidden under a rock – in this case a very big one, on the right and pretty high up. Covered by more rocks - please replace carefully as kids play here which, presumably, is why the last one vanished.
