This cache has been placed to mark the return of St Johnstone
Football Club to the SPL after a 7 year absence.
Please note that this is a football themed cache and swaps of a
similar nature would be appreciated.
St Johnstone Football Club derives it's name from St John's Toun
(Town) which was the ancient name for the City of Perth.
Saints played their first game in February 1885. Matches in the
early days were played at recreation grounds (south inch) and in
1924 St Johnstone moved to Muirton Park. In 1989 St Johnstone moved
to McDiarmid Park which was the UK's first all seated, purpose
built football club with a capacity of 10,000.
The stadium was named after local farmer Bruce McDiarmid who
donated the land on which the stadium was built.
It is advised that you avoid doing this cache on a match day as
supporters often walk along this wooded area going to and from
games.
Also if you choose to park in the car park on match days you
will be charged for parking.
Please take care on approach to the cache as the embankment is
steep. Walking boots advised.
