Geocache Description:

Please join the GGA from 2:00 until 4:00 for our November meeting at Oconee Veterans Memorial Park.
Mr. Bill Cheatum from the Georgia Orienteering Club will introduce us to orienteering, then cut us loose to run a scored course he has set up for us.

Orienteering is a map reading sport. Features are circled on a map and the orienteer tries to find them as quickly as possible using her own map reading and compass skills.

At Veterans Park, you will have a chance to participate in a Score Orienteering event where you will need to find as many points as possible within a 30 minute time frame. The points will be marked on a map of the park and some points will not be marked on the map but you will be given their LatLong coordinates in degrees and/or UTM coordinates. Bring a compass and GPS in which you can enter coordinates.

Basic instruction on the use of these tools and orienteering in general will be available.

Visit the Georgia Orienteering website (gaorienteering.org) and learn more about this international lifetime sport.

A special THANKS goes out to Railroading for getting this event set up!
