Marana AF Aux. No. 4 aka Arva Aux. No. 4
While using Garmin’s Topo map I noticed all these short lines, triangles, squares, crosses and vees. Some of those symbols I recognized right away as airfields. The squares and triangles were a bit unusual as the runways were around the perimeters. A little research on the internet provided much information about these old airstrips and the locations of several more. Many were built by the Army Air Force during World War II and abandoned at the end of the war. Some of those are still in use today known as Pinal Air Park, Avra Valley Airport and the El Tiro Gliderport to name a few. Other airfields were for civil aviation or private in nature. So many new geocaching opportunities have presented themselves . As I am calling this series Arizona’s Ghost Airfields and Arizona is a large state, I would like to open it up to anyone who wishes to add a cache to this series. Just send me an email so we can co-ordinate our efforts.
