Geocache Description:

The CACHE is NOT AT THE ABOVE listed COORDINATES.

The CACHE is NOT AT THE ABOVE listed COORDINATES.

This Multi-Cache Begins at the First Waypoint listed Below.

This is one of four multi-caches in my Twilight Movie Tour Challenge. The caches are Spidermonkey GC1ZX2J, Adrenaline Rush GC1ZX1W, La Push GC1ZX26, & Berry Cobbler GC1ZX2V. After finding these you can use the clues you gather from inside each to solve for the Bonus cache, The Lion & the Lamb GC1ZX3G.

This challenge was designed to take you to just about all of the Pacific Northwest filming locations used in the hugely popular 2008 movie, Twilight. This is one in a series of four multi-caches that will lead you to a fifth and final bonus cache. I have dubbed it a challenge because of the distances that must be traveled and the time involved in getting there. At each waypoint, clues are to be gathered in order to solve for the final cache location. Once you have found all four multi-caches and gathered the clues secreted within each, you will have all the information needed to solve for the bonus cache location.

Suggestions: 1) Bring along a calculator, as the math can get tedious after a long day caching. I’ve provided “checksums”, because I don’t want anyone to gather the wrong clues and then not be able to find the cache in the end. 2) You will be racking up many miles, so highway maps of Oregon and Washington may come in handy. Although waypoints are listed in logical order, you may not be familiar enough with the highways to find the shortest route between them without a map. 3) The waypoints for each cache should be done in order, because it does end up cutting down on driving and puts you in good position when searching for the final cache locations.

I’ve created this challenge all “For the Love of Twilight”, and for all you other geocaching Twilighters who I knew would be just as excited as I was to visit our local movie filming locations. After seeing the movie first, I read the books. I felt closer to the movie because it had been filmed in my own backyard. I got even more excited when I bought the “Twilight Director’s Notebook” by Catherine Hardwicke, which I now refer to as my “bible”. I couldn’t have done this without it. I hope this entices all you non-Twilighters to give the movie a try. It’s a different experience once you’ve been there.

I want to thank my best geocaching buddy Flowerbug for helping me with these caches by supporting me and being a great sounding board for all my ideas. It was a blast. I also want to thank Stardust and Mamajo for being my double checkers. Last but not least, I want to thank my Mom, who after our first viewing of Twilight made the statement, “that Edward is such a doll”, without which I wouldn’t have given Twilight a second thought. Hope you all enjoy the ride. Travelsister.

La Push – Twilight Movie Tour Challenge

1. Forks High School

N 45 32.669 W 122 34.864

Located in NE Portland, this will bring you to a city park near the school where they filmed the cafeteria scene in which Bella first sees the Cullens. Look across the park to see the School. Do Not Enter the Campus. Permission was not given. There is street parking next to the park or within the neighborhood.

At these coordinates, you will find seven numbers _ _ _ & _ _ _( _ ) . The last number will = A. (Checksum for the seven digits added together is 9.)

2. Mimi’s Ballet Studio

N 45 31.028 W 122 39.326
N 45 30.997 W 122 39.341

Located in SE Portland, this building was used as the exterior of the ballet studio where the final showdown takes place. The interior was done elsewhere, but if you look closely, you will recognize the unique windows.

At the first set of coordinates, carefully count the pains of glass in this street level window. This will = B. (Checksum for the digits added together is 5.)
At the second set of coordinates, you will find a name. Count the number of letters in the entire name. This will = C. (Checksum for the digits added together is 7.)

3. Forks

N 45 51.528 W 123 11.523
N 45 51.516 W 123 11.636

Located in Vernonia, OR, this street was used as Main St. Forks in the first scene when Charlie brings Bella to town. The second set of coordinates is the corner where the wood-carved animals statues stood. This is great place to get out and stretch your legs. They’ve got some great little shops here.

At the first set of coordinates, count the number of lamp posts on both sides. This will = D.
At the second set of coordinates, find the two street signs. Count the letters on the top sign. This will = E. Count the letters on the bottom sign. This will = F.
(Checksum for the digits of D, E, and F added together is 15.)

4. Forks Police Department

N 45 51.539 W 123 11.815

This was the Forks Police Station where Edward and Bella stop on their way back from Port Angeles to talk to Carlisle about another murder in town.

At these coordinates, find the bike rack. Count the upright supports. This will = G.

5. La Push/ Indian Beach

N 45 55.862 W 123 58.718
N 45 55.905 W 123 58.745

Located inside Ecola State Park near Cannon Beach, Indian Beach was the stand in for First Beach in the town of La Push on the Quileute Reservation where Jacob and his friends (local Oregon actors Solomon Trimble as Sam Uley and Krystopher Hyatt) live. There is a $5 entrance fee that you have to pay (4/2010 state park fees have now gone up from $3 to $5), but it’s definitely worth it. They filmed in the lower parking lot in a surfer van (a lot of surfers here) and at the south end of the beach near N 45 55.600 W 123 58.653 if you decide to take the short walk down (1/4 mile) and check it out.

At the first set of coordinates, count the stairs going down to the beach. This will = H.
At the second set of coordinates, find the number in the lower right hand corner. This will = I.
(Checksum for the digits of H and I added together is 6.)

6. Final ? N 45 ®¢.@#$ W 123 %^.&£©

Now, to solve for the final location you will have to do a little math. It should be simple math for almost everybody. You will be using all the clues that were gathered and converted to letters. Now put these values into the equations provided to solve for the symbols. I’ve chosen these symbols to represent numbers in the final coordinates.

There is very poor satellite reception here, so I provided a more explicit hint. Some bushwhacking is required about 25 ft. uphill off the trail. A compass may be helpful.

A=
B=
C=
D=
E=
F=
G=
H=
I=

(Checksum for values of A+B+C+D+E+F+G+H+I added together is 103.)

N 45 ®¢.@#$ W 123 %^.&£©
N 45 _ _._ _ _ W 123 _ _._ _ _

Remember to do the math within the Parentheses first (it makes things easier). Then work the problem left to right from there. Multiply ( * ) last. Please show your work (just kidding).
(Checksum for all the digits in the final coordinates added together is 75.)

(I * H) - G = ®¢

(C + G) - (E + F + I) = @

H * (I + A) + A = #$

B + H + D = %^

B - F - I = &

(I * A) + D = £

C - E = ©
