The Doublehead Cabin cache is located at the summit of North Doublehead, with an elevation of (3,053 ft) and a 1.8 mile hike.
The WMNF "locked" cabin is a must see as it is a traditional log cabin with chinking, although it now has a metal roof.
It was built in the 1930's by the Civilian Conservation Corps.
The parking area is on the east (left) side of Dundee Rd. in Jackson, 2.9 miles from Rt. 16.
The trail follows a private road for about 100 yd's, then turns right, enters the woods, swings left, and becomes steeper.
Beyond the cabin, a path leads to a great view of the east, overlooking Mountain Pond, the mountains of the Baldface Range, and the hills and lakes of western Maine.
Nice spot to stop and have lunch.
Don't forget to grab the Doublehead Tool Shed cache (GC1ZV33) on the way to the top.
The cache is key holder (That's all we had in our bag) with a log BYOP
