Geocache Description:

A surprising little waterfall in the Fernkloof Nature reserve.

The waterfall is in an ecologically sensitive area
In the past there was a signpost to point it out, but this has been removed as it was felt that the site was receiving too much foot traffic.

It has become a little secret, known only to locals! Please tread lightly!

It will probably take about an hour and a half to reach the cache site. The walk is quite long, the round trip will take about 4 hours. With that in mind, the description is more directive than usual. I want to make sure the long walk does not have to be repeated. Please excuse it if it is a little long winded.

Take plenty of water, sun protection and a costume and towel.

There are two main approaches to the cache site, they probably will take about the same amount of time to walk:

The first would be to walk from the parking lot at Fernkloof nature reserve:

Make your way to "Fernkloof Vista", a cache that can be done along the way. Continue to Assvoëlkop as indicated by the sign just beyond  "Fernkloof Vista".

Go straight on.

From here to the jeep track, the path is a little overgrown but manageable. Remember to watch for snakes.

At the T-junction with the jeep track turn right toward  Assvoëlkop (at S 34° 23.375   E 019° 16.563).

Turn right when you hit the jeep track.

Now comes quite a long walk along the jeep track to the path that will take you to the cache.

.

A view along the way, on the jeep track.

The path down to the cache is not signposted. It turns right, off the jeep track at  S 34° 23.147   E 019° 17.189 .If you reach the signpost and path to Galpin Hut, you have gone about 20m too far.

The signpost is about 20m up the hill from the unmarked path.

Looking down the hill.

Go back down the hill. Once you find the path, follow it and it will lead you to the cache site .

The other approach would be via the Breath-Taker and BogeyBear caches:

Looking towards BogeyBear and Cyclopia caches from the jeep track.

Continue past  BogeyBear cache till you reach the T- junction. Turn right a head towards Cyclopia. Once you hit the jeep track simply follow it right around the ravine below. Once you cross the cement causeway, the path leading down to the cache is about 100m further on. Walk past the signpost to Galpin Hut till you reach the waypoint as reflected above. Turn left down to the cache.

As one approaches the cache site the path becomes steep and narrow. Watch your step as it may be very slippery when wet. You will be quite a long way from help if you fall. There is no cell phone reception in the gully.

Finding the cache:

Once at the cache site, please  respect the vegetation and be as ecologically friendly as possible. To reduce erosion and vegetation damage caused by cachers, please use the spoiler pictures provided to find the cache.

Start standing facing away from the cave, just back from the mouth of the cave. Look to your right and you will see this area:

Cache hiding place: ferns about 5 meters to the side of the cave.

The cache is hidden behind a rock, under a mossy root between the ferns.

Cache hiding place: Behind the rock.

IF YOU ARE HOT AND BOTHERED, WHY NOT TAKE A COLD SHOWER?
