Geocache Description:

Cache is just east of the trail, at about 4306ft, not in rock pile or as my father use to call it a cairn.

Here's the back ground of the cache. This cache was placed in the loving memory of my hero, my father Leonard H. Dickey, by myself and my older sister. He was in the 82nd Airborne and was injured in the divisional jump before the unit was deployed to Korea. He landed on another soldier's parachute and jumped off it before he made it collapse. When he did this it sucked the air out of his chute and he rode a streamer 200ft to the ground; the impact broke his back. He later met my mother whom he married and fathered four children after the doctors said he would never have children and would never be out of his wheel chair. In Dec of 1989 he and his twin brother made the climb after their mother passed away (he did it on special crutches that he taught himself to walk with). The family did this for him in March of 2006, I believe it was his way to keep us active, as he always was.

The cache is a water tight clear lid cache box, with paratroopers inside to commemorate Dad's service, not hard to find and once again it's not in the rock pile. You will need a pick or high profile vehicle to get to the parking area (although I have seen cars in the area) which is off the I-8 west(about 22 miles west of Casa Grande), exit 144 Vekol Rd, drive south to Vekol ranch turn off and take the right fork, it is about 15 miles to the parking area after you get off the I-8.Round trip is about 8.5 miles, wouldn't take a child younger than 10 years of age, take lots of water, and I would never do this hike in the summer months.

Congradulations to Jolly Old Pirate on FTF well done.
