This is the second in the series of X Files caches. The cache is located near Lakota Lake. Please be sure to rehide the cache very well as there can be allot of activity in the area during the summer months. Also please leave the letterbox stamps with the cache and bring your own ink pad.
Lakota Lake is located off Hwy 16 and offers fishing and picnicking. It is a very scenic area nestled in the pines and towering granite formations. You may park at the designated parking area, then take the trail on the north side of the parking lot. The hike will take you on the west and north side of the lake. Then you must make a water crossing to hike across the dam to the cache. Be sure to check out the waterfall near the dam. Kick back and relax and take in the splendid beauty of the lake, but don’t let it fool you as it is home to a notorious creature. If you have made it this far then you must not have encountered the Creature of Lakota Lake. Please read the excerpt below to fully understand the unforeseen danger that may await you.
For many centuries there have been many stories of unexplained sightings and phenomena. There are certain things that the government would like to keep secret from society. In the summer of 1964 there were numerous sightings of a humanoid- amphibian like creature in the Lakota Lake area. Many locals scoffed at this and thought it was the work of high school pranksters. All of that soon changed on August 27th 1964 when local fisherman Morty Gleckman went missing. Morty was out fishing in his canoe when suddenly there was a terrifying scream that echoed across the lake. Morty’s canoe tipped over and there was a violent struggle. The only thing left behind was Morty’s favorite khaki fly fishing hat floating upon the waters rippled surface. There were several eye witnesses and one in particular managed to shoot a photo of the creature just moments before Morty’s disappearance. Gertrude Huggins was near the waters edge photographing the beautiful reflections upon the water with her brand new Kodak Brownie camera. Much to her horror and surprise, Gertrude managed to snap a photo of the amphibian like creature as it burst out of the water and then quickly disappeared below the surface. The local sheriff and FBI were sent in to find poor Morty and capture the creature, but neither were found. Months later the FBI dubbed Gertrude’s photo as a fake and closed the case. For many years the sightings diminished, but recently there has been an influx of reported sightings. Is this simply a myth or a mysterious legendary creature that inhabits the murky depths of Lakota Lake.
