Geocache Description:

semi easy ding and dash

Constantia was a grand old north shore dandy at one time. This was the hub of activity back in the day. The railroad was king and its seen here with this odd volunteer fire bell. The old W&S railroad helped to form the village.
We spoke with Mike Whitney of the fire company and got a bit of info about the past This site is dedicated to Jim Hawk who years ago lived here and was the first line of defense in the event of a fire. Back when phones were first used here he was called first and others were called in a predetermined order.I allso found out about the "Three Day Blow" the front runner of the firemens' field days. One of the games held was to see who could ring the bell the clearest and the loudest.
The bell is made from a reinforcement ring used on old steam engines to strenghten the tank and prevent them from blowing up. The frame is made from rail and the rest from leftover parts.
Mike told me that you may want to bring a sledge hammer because the tinknockers hammer I used barely rang the bell.
When I find em I cache em.So come and ring my bell.
