Park at N 41° 43.822, W 072° 30.230. This cache is part of the
Buckingham Reservoir series of 13 caches. Most of the cache
locations are on or near well-worn trails, however, some of them
may be extra challenging during certain seasons of the year. There
is an abundance of wildlife in the area. It’s quite possible
to encounter beaver, bobcats, coyotes, deer, fishers, red, grey and
yellow foxes, four varieties of owls, snapping turtles, timber
rattlesnakes, various water snakes, weasels and the very rare
occasional wandering bear. Exercise caution and remember that this
is their home.
Nightscape is a nightime cache, hence the name. It was placed by
Bobby Rudolph (a member of the rudolph team) with help and ideas
from Republic Commando.
To find this geocache, you will need some special equipment in
addition to your GPS receiver. This will include:
1) a powerful flashlight (any type)
2) a powerful incandescent flashlight
2) trinkets and trade items for the 'swag bag'
3) your car's built-in FM radio
4) wear long pants for ticks and bushwhacking
5) pen and paper
6) a 2-way FRS radio (walkie talkie)
7) a portable CD player
8) a peice of paper with " 3-1-1-2-3-2 " written on it
The cache starts at the listed coordinates. Park in the far left
corner of the turn-around, near the metal gate. Tune your car radio
to 107.5 and listen.
Several elements of this cache are solar powered and will only
operate for a short period after nightfall. For best results, be at
the starting coordinates by nightfall. A reference chart for sunset
times each day can be found here.
This cache may take 0.5 hours to 2 hours to finish. There is
quite a bit of walking involved, probably around 1.5 miles total.
When you find yourself close to the parking area once again, you
are about half done.
Also, consider trying BuckResv - Deer Pond (GC1QFWM) after doing
Nightscape. It is about a 30 minute cache, and only about a 5
minute walk from the final stage of Nightscape.
Since this is a very high-mantainence cache, please write a
note a few days in advance of your search, so that we can check all
of the stages and make any repairs. If you neglect to do this,
it is likely that you will encounter more frustration and less fun,
but hey, thats your choice.
Good luck and have fun!
