This town comprises fractional township 14 north, of range 7 east, and occupies a position in the northwestern part of the county bordering Saginaw Bay.
The town was organized by an act of legisture in 1861. The first town meeting was held in April of that year at the residence of Hiram Thomas.
Census of 1864: Population, 98; number of acres of taxable land, 680.
Census of 1870: Population, 165; families, 32; dwellings, 22; farms, 17, voters, 41; horses, 32
Census of 1874: Population, 190; numbers of horses, 56; number of cows, 78
Population in 1880 was returned with Gilford. In 1882 the number of acres assessed was 11,907. Number of farms in 1882, 28. Buschels of wheat raised in 1880, 5072; of corn, 4701, tons of hay, 933.
The Post Office was established on December 11, 1871, with Henry H. Gilbert as the first postmaster. The Post Office operated until May 31, 1905.
The town of Wisner had two whole and one fractional school districts. For the year ending September 4, 1882, there were reported twenty-five children of school age in the town, and four frame school houses.
The land on the northwest corner of your location was the site of the Wisner Hotel. The land south of where you are standing was the location of the Grocery Store. The grocery store was still operating in the early 1980's until it was destroyed by a fire.
Prime Brothers Furniture Store on South Euclid in Bay City had its beginnings in Wisner. The Brothers Prime started here as a mattress factory.
