Fancy an hour long walk to a picturesque waterfall that can be easily be walked behind.
This cache is close to the Shower Cave Falls on the Split Rock Falls alternative track. The falls are well worth a visit in their own right or make an idyllic break during the trek up to the Split Rock Falls where you can find Sirius' excellent cache. The falls are obviously better after rain and snow while the flow would possibly cease during extended dry times. There are lots of interesting features to explore within 100m of the cache including boulders, rock overhangs, small creeks and the impressive Cleft Rock that the Split Rock Track climbs through.
The cache is accessed via a barely adequately signed and unformed track that can be exuberantly steep in places. The parking at the Split Rock Falls carpark is good and the gravel road is usually O.K. The signposted track crosses the Meander River using a suspension bridge (that the CEyrettes love) before climbing and crossing the face of the escarpment to the falls. Do not expect to find stairs or hand-rails or level walking surfaces on this expedition. The small detours around fallen trees can be somewhat challenging for little legs..... My five year old daughter walked to the falls just under an hour.
The cache location is bounded by both steep slopes and tallish trees that make the GPSr work hard to locate accurate co-ordinates, after 30 minutes the best the Garmin could manage was 32m, hence the final (location spoiling) paragraph. The cache itself is 90mm PVC pipe that needs to be securely closed to prevent moisture seepage and the log book is sealed inside two cliplock bags. I accidently brought the pencil home but the cache pen should work during the summer. The first page is signed by members of the City of Devonport Joey Scout mob as it was hidden on a group walk.
Have fun but be very careful and prepared for both inclement weather and poor light. i.e. bring a raincoat and a torch. There is no mobile phone coverage in this area.
As always, let someone responsible know where you are going and your expected time of return.
Location spoiler.....the hint may not be enough.....
The cache is between the falls and Cleft Rock. It is very near the track.
