Geocache Description:

Visitors Park near the entrance to the Bundaberg Port. While here, make sure to check out the Old Working Motor on Display and Press the Button. Your looking for a Film Canister.

The Port of Bundaberg is situated 19.3km downstream from the City of Bundaberg, 4.8km from the mouth of the Burnett River, and has an entrance channel 11km long. The channel is 103m wide, with a minimum 9.5m navigable depth (LAT) which leads into a swing basin, 1,165m long and 320m wide.
The City of Bundaberg was established to serve as a vital link to the surrounding agricultural district when navigators proved that the Burnett River offered the best commercial means of transport to and from the area.

Timber, maize and copper quickly gave way to sugar as the district's principal export. As you may already know, Bundaberg is home to the famous Bundaberg Sugar and Bundaberg Rum.

The port was moved from the town reach of the Burnett River to the river mouth at Burnett Heads where the new port was built in 1958. The new port was able to handle the much larger bulk ships being introduced to the coastal and export trade.

On 1 October 2007 the Bundaberg Port Authority merged with the Port of Brisbane Corporation as a wholly owned subsidiary of the Port of Brisbane Corporation Limited.
