Blakey Lane links Sowerby to the A19 and is a popular route for locals. Unfortunately, vehicles often damage the narrow bridge as they try to cross it. In 2008 it was reported that over £30,000 had been spent during the previous 15 years on repairs; and more has been spent since. Road narrowing walls and bollards have been fitted on the bridge's approach to stop anything wider than 2.0 m (6' 6") crossing. There is also a vehicle activated illuminated sign at the A19 end of Blakey Lane warning vehicles of 3.5 tonnes and above that access is prohibited.
Bridge damage in 2014
There is space for one car to park on the Sowerby side of the bridge, but the bridge and road are very narrow and it is much safer to park elsewhere and walk to the cache.
The suggested parking place is also the suggested parking place for two other local caches: Pudding Pie Hill (N.Yorks) and Close to a Pack Horse.
