This site along the beautiful Luce Line Trail is adjacent to a family friendly Long Lake town park. Though the geocache hiding spot is not particularly difficult, depending on the time of day, you may have to watch for frequent passers-by and/or pint-sized park patrons.
The recently completed (2008) MnDOT bridge across "new" Highway 12 Long Lake bypass is a marvel of modern engineering (appears able to withstand a nuclear blast!). But just as amazing is the bridge about 1/8 mile east along the Luce Line Trail that now crosses over "old" Highway 12. Although no signs or markings announce its significance, this recently refurbished (2009) bridge is actually quite historic. It was built around 1914 (don't quote me on this date) as part of the Luce Line and originally stood where the new bridge (cache site) now stands. It provided a railroad overpass crossing (the original Luce Line) OVER another railroad (BN-SF)!
