Geocache Description:

Guzzle Hole Cave, Bishopston Valley.

Bishopston Valley, which extends from the old village to the coast at Pwll-Du, is perhaps the most mysterious and exciting of all Gower cwms. It has a wildness and a solitude which no other can match, and in the summer the moist heat which the tree-canopy can trap makes it seem almost tropical.

This Cache is placed with the kind permission of Sian Musgrave, Head warden, The National Trust, Gower.

Access to the valley is along the stream bed from the ford at Bishopston (near St Teilo's Church). Or from the footpath opposite The Beaufort Arms Pub, Kittle.

Access can also be gained via the footpath from Pyle Corner.

Either way, the ground is always muddy and can be quite hard going if your not wearing boots or wellies. (It may prove a little difficult with children to get to the cache, however my 3 & 5 year olds can do it with a little encouragement)

Guzzle Hole, also known as Gut Hole Cave, was the reputed hideout of the supernatural 'Spring-Heeled Jack' who haunted Gower during Victorian days. Whilst no-one has even suggested seeing the creature here in recent years, approaching Gut Hole Cave can still be an unnerving experience. As the cave is approached, the quiet melody of woodland birdsong is drowned by the deafening roar of subterranean water as the Bishopston Stream sounds forth from Gut Hole's five metre wide by two metre high gaping mouth.

***THE CACHE IS NOT IN THE CAVE***
