A return walk of less than an hour from Powmill, mostly grass track, quite muddy track so boots are best. You will have to cross a couple of gates and one fence. Please only attempt cache during daylight hours.
*****YOU DO NOT NEED TO SCALE A SIX FOOT HIGH FENCE IF YOU FOLLOW MY INSTRUCTIONS****PLEASE READ DESCRIPTION, YOU WILL NEED TO COPE WITH MUD AND A FENCE ON THIS CACHE......I found this fantastic piece of well hidden architecture while looking for alternative ways to access the "Cauldron Linn" cache, this massive railway viaduct has clearly been unused for many years and has developed it,s own undergrowth on the trackway. It is extremely high with very impressive huge vaulted arches, the trackway has low walls and guardrails. The GZ is roughly halfway across the viaduct so if you do not like heights then it is not for you. Suitable parking place is the car park of the now closed Gartwhinzean Hotel N56 09.843 W003 34.949
or you can park in Gartwhinzean Loan which is about 400 yards West of Hotel and save some walking.
Head West on main road from either parking place and look for a lone new build cottage on the right, take the path that runs behind it and follow it, stick to the raised bank on the left for a drier walk. Keep going till you come to a sharp left turn at gates, ignore the turn and head straight into the field, make for the fence on the right and follow it along the top of the gorge till you reach the corner beside the viaduct, cross the fence here, standard height fence,top strand is not barbed. There is no need to try and climb the six foot high fence to get on to the viaduct if you follow my instructions. the viaduct is completely out of sight till you almost arrive at it. Work your way throught the undergrowth on the viaduct to GZ. Please remember to close any gates you open. I did work my way down the gorge to the river to take the photo however I would not recommend it.
