There have been a few people asking about this particular cemetery so I thought I'd share a few things.

This is Holland's oldest cemetery and was named after Arthur Humphrey, who was one of Holland's first settlers and its first supervisor. Most of Holland's Revolutionary War and War of 1812 soldiers are buried here.

I've spent quite a bit of time in this particular cemetery collecting information and taking many pictures. Each and every person buried in this cemetery is an ancestor of mine.

Not far from the cemetery was a fort called, Fort Humphrey. Another interesting bit of history is that at one point, the Holland Land Company (which it is believed Holland was named after), tried to take land away from some of its settlers (my ancestors). There was supposedly a gun battle with the HLC (Holland Land Company) and some of the family moved out west where many of the "Colby" family is now living.

Some of the family names in this cemetery are "Colby", Cooper", "Rogers", "Davis" and others which are all descendants of mine. The Colby's were one of the first families to move to Holland, NY. Through lots of research using LDS records and help from relatives in Utah close to the LDS Center, we were able to verify one very famous ancestor. Laura Ingalls Wilder, who also descends from the Colby Family turns out to be a cousin. How very exciting to be related to such a talented writer.
