Geocache Description:

I have finally found a place for my nice wooden container that used to reside in Bighill Springs PP. I have tried it at various spots but nothing worked until this spot. It now hangs in an old spruce tree high on a ridge that juts out from the main Powderface Ridge, hence the name Powderface Outlier. Great hike, great views, what more could you want.

Now, let me tell you about Mrs BVPete, she has been on a self improvement kick for the last several months (this is of her own doing as I have always thought she was darn near perfect). Anyway, she has lost a whole whack of weight, has gotten herself into really good shape and has started to once again, join me on some of the hikes she has been avoiding for the last few years. So, today we accomplished this 3 km (one way) hike with its elevation gain of 460 meters to the top of the ridge in under one hour. Not too shabby for a couple of 60++ folks. Hallelujah!

The parking spot for the hike is shown as WP001 and it is essentially at the end of Hwy 66, west of Elbow falls, just before the start of the Powderface Trail road. Hwy 66 is closed at Elbow Falls between Dec 1 and May 14 so if you want to get the cache this year you better hurry! You could get it in winter but the hike would be very long. The cache is a small LnL contained inside a wooden box which is hanging in a tree. There is a $5.00 FTF prize and card plus finders cards for the next 10 cachers that make the journey.
