Yes, Virginia, there still is... Mystery Cache

This cache has been archived.

tealeaf: Was in the area today so went for a look. All the covering vegetation was gone although a gourd plant was working its way down the trail. The location violates my sense that a cache should only be in a place worth visiting even if you fail to make the find. An ugly ditch with a scenic view of the Target loading dock doesn't make that cut. The choice was originally because that was as close as I could get to Tux headquarters but he has retired and left the building. This was my favorite page to write but times change. Thanks to all who visited and liked the story.

Geocache Description:

This was one of my favorite pages to write but the original spot did not work. Since this is the season of its inspiration, I thought it was time to place it again. The cache is not at the listed coordinates.

"DEAR EDITOR: I am 8 years old.
"Some of my little friends say there is no work when Tux logs that his find is "on the way to work"..
"Papa says, 'If you see it on geocaching.com, it's so.'
"Please tell me the truth; does Tux work? "

VIRGINIA O'HANLON.

Tealeaf, your little friends are wrong. They have been affected by the skepticism of a skeptical age. They do not believe except what they see. They think that nothing can be which is not comprehensible by their little minds. All minds, Tealeaf, whether they be men's or children's, are little. In this great universe of ours, man is a mere insect, an ant, in his intellect, as compared with the boundless world about him, as measured by the intelligence capable of grasping the whole of truth, knowledge and Google Earth.

Yes, Tealeaf, there is work for Tux.. It exists as certainly as love and generosity and devotion exist, and you know that they abound and give to your life its highest beauty and joy. Alas! how dreary would be the world if there were no work for Tux It would be as dreary as if there were no Tealeafs. There would be no childlike faith then, no poetry, no romance and no pocket queries to make tolerable this existence. We should have no enjoyment, except in sense and sight and no FTFs. The eternal light with which childhood fills the world would be extinguished and no one would log DNFs.

Not believe in work for Tux! You might as well not believe in fairies or traditional caches! You might get your papa to hire men to watch all the caches to catch him, but even if they did not see Tux, what would that prove? Nobody sees him work, but that is no sign that there is no work. The most real things in the world are those that neither children nor men can see, like lucky charms. Did you ever see fairies dancing in the bosque? Of course not, but that's no proof that they are not there. Nobody can conceive or imagine all the wonders there are unseen and unseeable in the world until they are published on a cache page.

You may tear apart the baby's rattle, see what makes the noise inside and look for the log sheet, but there is a veil covering the unseen world which not the strongest man, nor even the united strength of all the strongest men that ever lived, could tear apart. Only faith, fancy, poetry, love, romance and accurate coordinates, can push aside that curtain and view and picture the supernal beauty and glory beyond. Is it all real? Ah, Tealeaf, in all this world there is nothing else real and abiding.

No work for Tux! Thank God! he works, and his work lives forever. A thousand years from now, Tealeaf, nay, ten times ten thousand years from now, he will continue to make glad the heart of childhood. The grownups will continue to be vexed by his nanos and puzzles. All on the way to work.
