NOTE: It is approximately 2 miles east from where Glover Road changes from paved to dirt.
This is #34 in our "WEIRD SC" Series which will consist of caches placed at locations where either ghosts, unknown creatures, or just plain weird things have occurred or exist.
We think our State Motto should change to "Smiling Faces, Haunted Places.
Just off Hwy 13 outside of Ridgeland, SC, is Glover road. After several miles of pavement it turns into a dirt road. The area is loaded with old plantation houses and new trailers. But further down the dirt road there are several hunt clubs.
8/10's of a mile east on the right from the cache location is a small dirt road with a wooden hunt club sign. As you turn onto the road just before you get to the clubs gate you will notice a ramshackle group of tombstones on the left.
Weeds have overgrown most of the stones and almost all have trash and debris on them. It is not marked nor are there any signs explaining it's presence.
The graves are curiously spread out with no pattern or reason, as if they were just haphazardly placed.
And yet one grave in particular has flowers on it and is neat with the area around it clear of trash, debris or weeds.
You cannot discern the name or dates as they are old and faded. No one in the area, Aries was told, knows who it belongs to or why the flowers are placed there regularly nor by whom. It is said that the headstone just appeared there one day and no one knows why or how.
It is also said that the headstone will glow at night with an eerie green light. And that those who see it become ill within hours of seeing the sight.
Aries could not find anymore information on the headstone or anyone that knew who it belonged to. The Deputy Sheriff who showed it to him stated they had responded to calls out at the hidden cemetary on occassion for persons reporting the glowing headstone but had never seen it himself. They mainly used to run off local teens parking and drinking beer in the area, but not so much anymore as they stepped up night time patrols in the area.
The property owner stated that it is a former family cemetary that is no longer used but he has no idea about that gravestone and did not want to discuss it.
It is definately a strange sight even in the daylight.
