Spitskop Armchair

An easily accessible 2-3 hour hike along excellent paths to a stunning 360 degree viewpoint on a rocky koppie. Thanks to Paddawan for confirming the approach route and providing guiding waypoints.
Park just off Ou Kaapseweg at S 34 06.460 E 18 24.165 near the Ou Wapad trail sign, ensuring your car is secure and leaving nothing interesting or valuable visible!
Proceed up the wide gravel jeep track for about 30 minutes (passing close by the location of the Ou Wapad Cache GC1R7VV( and making a small detour through the bush to by-pass a short flooded section – depending on the amount of rain which has recently fallen) to the path junction at S 34 05.705 E 18 24.298.

Turn left here heading west along a smaller jeep track which later becomes a single track. Follow this to the Y-junction at S 34 05.550 E 18.24.095. Turn left here heading SW along a narrow sandy and then later rocky trail, passing a small seasonal stream on the way (delicious cool water when available!) and then ascending to the top of the ridge at S 34 05.733 E 18 23.850.
Turn right here near a small cairn heading NW along a small trail a short distance over the rocks to the summit cairn at S 34 05.718 E 18 23.796.

If you stand on the north side of this cairn roughly facing Noordhoek Peak/Constantiaberg Mast, the cache (a screw-capped camo-taped plastic pot) is located approx 14m away in this direction a short distance down the slope.
It is hidden in an 'armchair' - a little rocky alcove situated at the bottom of a jumble of rocks with a nice flat rock for a seat and another flat rock for a foot rest (long legs required!). This is a great spot to chill out and take in the view of the Noordhoek amphitheatre, Chapman’s Peak, Hout Bay mountains visible through the nek and the brilliant white sand Noordhoek beach further to the south.
For an alternative return route, when you get to the trail junction at waypoint JB carry straight on heading NW over a rocky rise to the junction at S 34 05.387 E 18 24.327. Turn right here and follow this trail as its twist and turns to make its way back down to the jeep track. Turn right and follow this down past the turn-off point used on the way up and back to the parking/trail head.
