Geocache Description:

This is some of the work the trail crew does

I recently learned a new term "Armoring." It means to make a culvert safe from the wet weather. After the trail was bulldozed they used heavy equipment to cut cross trenches at appropriate spots, lay culvert pipe in them and cover with dirt. Now comes the lowly manual labor. Work parties under the guidance of ARC and BLM use hand tools and wheelbarrows to gather rocks. We then bring them over to the culvert and stack them as shown in the below pictures. Despite it being very strenous is was actually fun. Nice to be making something that people will enjoy for a very long time. The BLM guy running the crew was also giving us instructions on how to coutour a trail to make it last. He said that a properly done trail will last 100 years with minimal maintenance. There were approximately 30 new culverts along the new part of the trail.

FTF is a decon container with a log in it so you have a ready made cache. The decon container also has an unactivated TB tag which you can keep for personal use or make it FTF when you place the new cache.

Prior to getting up here you probably have done View From the New Trail Those cache instructions will get you from Skunk Hollow to the trail.
