Geocache Description:

A regular sized cache, consisting of a well-marked ammo tin, placed in Curragh Chase Forest Park. The Geocache was compiled and placed by members of Tails and Trails Dog Adventure Club

Tails and Trails Dog Adventure Club is a brand new club for those interested in outdoor activities with their dogs. Our dogs love to run and pull and we give them a chance to get the exercise they need and deserve through various “mushing” type activities such as dog scootering, carting, bikejoring, canicross and weight-pulling. We aim to teach those who are interested in outdoor activities with their canine-companion, how to do it safely, with advice on the correct accessories, and techniques. All breeds are welcome.

Curragh Chase covers 313 hectares of mixed woodlands, park land and lakes which together provide a rich habitat for a diverse range of animals and plants.

Originally, the name of the estate was Curragh (meaning bog) before it was changed to Curragh Chase by Sir Aubrey de Vere. Aubrey Thomas de Vere a poet and author, was born at Curragh Chase in 1814. Aubrey died in 1902 having lived mostly at Curragh Chase. Curragh Chase was acquired in 1957 by the Forestry Division and in the 1970s was established as a forest park.

There are several special areas of conservation in the park and Coillte is currently involved in restoring native woodlands to important sites in the park.

There are a number of looped way marked trails in the park to suit all visitors. They vary from the multi-access trails suitable for wheelchair users and family walkers to the longer Curragh and Glenisca trails suitable for those looking for more demanding walking and cycling.

On Sunday 15th March Tails and Trails held their first *fun* Time Trial event, as part of the club's November Multi-Activity Weekend, with competitions for Dog Scootering, Bikejoring, Cani-cross and 4-dog Rigs...and after the event, the cache was placed not far from a section of trail used for the Time Trial.

When it comes to parking and hunting for the cache, you have two choices, you can park here (N 52 35.369 W 008 52.849) for a cache'n'dash, and climb over the wall (specifically lowered by Coillte for pedestrian access), or you can go down to the main Curragh Chase car park, via an automated pay-barrier (€5) located here (N 52 36.438 W 008 52.318) and spend the day enjoying all the Curragh Chase has to offer.
The cache is available 24/7, although bear in mind the pay car park, accessed through the automatic barrier, is only open during set hours.
**Note - you do NOT need to go through the pay barrier to access the cache**

Keep an ear out on the trails though, and if you see someone cycling along, with a dog or two harnessed on to the front of her bicycle, please do say 'hi'...and I'll be sure to stop for a chat...be it about Geocaching, Bikejoring, dogs, or even just the weather!

Happy Hunting!
