Mounds State Park Annual Spring Equinox Event
Mar 20,2010
Equinox means literally, “equi/equal -
nox/night”. Each year there are two dates in which there is
an equal amount of day and night and for centuries communities
around the world have celebrated their occurrence.
The
“eggs and seeds” theme for this year’s event
comes from the celebration of the vernal, or spring, equinox. Eggs
were seen by ancient people as a symbol of fertility or rebirth.
Seeds were, likewise, viewed as a potential for new plant life.
With each new sprout came a promise from Mother Earth that the
winter famine was nearly at an end.
The spring
equinox is March 20th this year and Mounds State Park would like to
invite you to join us for a three day event to welcome the coming
of a new season.
