Geocache Description:

Who is this man of stone?

You will find out!!!

The Central Experimental Farm in Ottawa was established in 1886. Plans contemplated the formation of an arboretum and botanic garden. Its purpose would be to bring together all the native species of plants in Canada and to test the hardiness and adaptability of shrubs and trees growing in northern climates in other parts of the world to the climate of Ottawa.

The actual work of the garden was begun in 1889, when 210 species were planted. In 1894 the arboretum and garden included 1000 trees and nearly 200 species and varieties of herbaceous plants, but by the close of the year 1895, these numbers had been raised to 1800 and 1000, respectively.

Do you know who the first entomologist and botanist was who developed “The Dominion Arboretum”? You can find out at the posted coordinates. At this location you will find a monument to this individual. On the north face of this monument you will find two dates.

Subtract 658 from the last 3 digits of the first date to obtain the decimal digits of WP2 north Coordinates and subtract 640 from the last 3 digits of the second date to obtain the decimal digits of WP2 West coordinates.

At WP 2 (suggested parking for the remainder of the multi) you will find a plaque with some other interesting information about this location. On this plaque you will also find two dates.

Subtract 537 from the last 3 digits of the first date to obtain the decimal digits of WP3 north Coordinates and subtract 701 from the last 3 digits of the second date to obtain the decimal digits of WP3 West coordinates.

At WP3 you will find a Gingo Biloba tree from China. On this tree there is a plaque with a 10 digits number in the following format NNNNNNNNNN.

Subtract 630 from the first 3 digits of this number to obtain a distance in meters and subtract 1047 from the last 4 digits to obtain a TN projection in Mils.

Go to the lookout which is about 28 meters to the SE and enjoy the scenery as you make this projection from here.

Now, go find the cache.

There is an inactivated Travel Bug for the FTF!
