PLEASE NOTE THE NEW COORDINATES!
We think this cache is our best to date. Location, location, location!! The cache is stashed on the rocky promontory at the confluence of the Smith River and it's South Fork tributary. “The Forks Of The Smith” is one of the most beautiful and often photographed spots in Northern California. Access is via South Fork Road off Hwy 199 east of Hiouchi. The trail begins at the river access parking lot between “Slant Bridge” and “Second Bridge”. If you come to the second bridge, you’ve come too far.
This cache is now in an ammo can. It has a lot of new, cool stuff in it, including a Bookcrossing.com registered book.
The original cache included a Travel Bug “hitchhiking” on a winged bug named "Bughouse". Check out the photo (below) to see what Bughouse looks like. Why was he in this cache to begin with? Why would he be interested in the operating system of a stranger's computer? For answers to these questions and to follow Bughouse's journey to the east (maybe even to Afghanistan), visit www.groundspeak.com and enter Travel Bug TB116.
This cache will most likely have to be removed sometime in late October or early November due to river/weather conditions.
PLEASE: Be stealthy when finding, logging and replacing this cache. This area sees a great deal of tourist traffic during the warmer seasons, and it has been stolen/trashed before. The cache location is a wonderful place for a picnic lunch on a sunny day. It can also be an awesome and somewhat scary place during a “ripsnorter Del Norter”. Come-a-hunting, be careful and enjoy.
