As of
01/13/2012: This cache is still available!!!
However... I HIGHLY recommend you stop at the "Iron Ranger"
(address and coords listed below) when entering the Picayune Strand
State Forest (PSSF) and pick up information regarding the
Everglades restoration project that is under way. Please do
NOT enter any of the "closed" areas! They are being patrolled
and... being in these "closed" areas is a felony.
************************************************************
You are looking for an ammo
can. This is a pretty easy cache to find but...there is a lot
to check out at this location! We always like to pack a lunch
for our visits here. Our kids love this place. Most
things here are obvious but take a look around for some of the
not-so-obvious.
The terrain rating is a little more
difficult. And that difficulty can, and will, change based on
your entry. The best point of entry is from 94th. You
can drive all the way down 94th to the "trail head/entrance area"
for this cache. However...your vehicle will likely take a
beating. At the very beginning of 94th there is a tree stump
sticking up out of the road. It is usually flagged but be
aware.
During our "rainy" season you may
have to walk through some ankle to mid-calf water. This
September/October (2009) the water wasn't an issue at all.
However...the area was damp. I happened to step on a damp,
moss covered root and twisted my ankle and tore ligaments in the
process.
*****There is a good possibility you will
see/find Travel Bugs (TBs) and/or GeoCoins in this cache. If
you are not familiar with what these are or how to handle them
properly, please follow this link: How to use a
Travel Bug
There are several other caches in the
area so be sure to check them out while you're here.
Enjoy!
Congratulations to
litngbug on FTF!!!
