Beneath the Tree Traditional Cache
molo17: Either this one was muggled, or it fell even deeper into the hole. I noticed that the stone covering the opening had been removed, so I'm guessing curiosity got the better of someone and they made off with the container. Looking back, I think the spot was a bit obvious... I think it's time to let this one go. Thanks everyone!

Please note Use of geocaching.com services is subject to the terms and conditions
in our disclaimer.
You'll be looking for a water bottle sized cache, covered in
camo-tape. The cache isn't in plain sight, but you shouldn't
have
too much trouble finding its hiding place.
Parking is available at N 43° 59.184, W 90° 30.5515 (a side
street), or at nearby Lake Park.
DETAILS
This cache is located near the dam entrance to the Tomah
Recreational Trail, but you we won’t be taking the easy paved trail
today. Instead, cross the bridge that runs the length of the dam
and take one of the slightly overgrown trails that start near the
grassy clearing on the northwest side of the creek. You’ll be
dealing with tall grass, sparse patches of seasonally muddy ground,
and a few low hanging branches, but nothing too serious.
When the trail reaches the train tracks, please exercise caution.
You will need to cross the tracks, and they are used from time to
time so please be careful. The trail picks up again on the other
side of the tracks, and you should have no problem finding the path
that leads to the cache location. When you find the cache, please
re-hide it well. I don’t know how busy this location is anymore,
and I’d hate to see this one muggled. There are two geocoins in
this cache, so please feel free to keep them circulating!
HISTORY
When I was a little younger than I am now, my friends and I would
come here during the summer and on warm evenings after school with
the aim of building an awesome tree fort. We managed to drag a
lawnmower from a nearby friend’s house (I hear his mom is an avid
geocacher herself, so a shout-out to her) and clear a small area to
the northeast of the cache location. After that, we sort of lost
interest and just hung out in the newly made clearing and we kept
exploring the surrounding area. The Tomah Recreational Trail hadn’t
been constructed yet, so the area felt like a secret hideout. It
was a lot of fun returning to this place after so many years, and
my brother and I had a great time hiding the cache (despite the
persistent dead fish smell).
Happy Hunting!
