Introduction
Hi Geocachers, XiaDog. from
Palmer Massachusetts here. You may have noticed my name on logs
in the area from time to time. My Son and
Daughter-in-Law ( she will be the one keeping a watchful eye
over this treasure chest ) live in the area, and I visit them a
couple of times a year, usually once being on my annual trip to
Myrtle Beach to visit my Dad for Thanksgiving. Of course caching is
ALWAYS part of the plan, and my Daughter-in-Law, while she does not
log them, REALLY looks forward to going out with me when I am here.
We have done Bond Park in Cary, and parts of the ATT to name a few.
This year we took a trek around the Apex
Community Park.
The second offer that could not be refused!
You can read all about my attempts to get a Ammo Can painted by my
caching buddy
Dosido's daughter Alexa, at the first cache she painted for me,
Alexa's First Cache, nearly 4 years ago. Since then "we" have
put out 2 more for her, and one for her brother Will, both of them
creating some fine pieces of work. Decorating Ammo Cans has become
so popular in the area, that at the annual Western Mass Winter
Warmup, hosted by Daddy Dosido, we have a table set up for kids
whom attend, to all get into the act, and raffle off the creations
as door prizes! Check out some of the fun and pictures from
Western Mass Winter Warmup IV
Recently I dropped by, and she was already talking about our fourth
installment, so to tide her over, I offered to place a custom can
in NC on my trip this time. How could she and Will refuse? So Daddy
Dosido got out the paint and the kids got to work, the result
documented in the pictures below.
The Cache Proper
While my Daughter-in-Law and I were doing the series at the Apex
Community Park, we managed to find a perfect spot to place this
cache. No tricks or puzzles, no climbing, no briers, or red
herrings, just a Kid Friendly traditional .50 cal. ammo can, hidden
in the traditional New England way, abet covered with Pine Straw,
which the
Dosido kids have never heard about, so I must bring some back
for them. There's room for most size travel bugs, and trade
items.
Since this is a "Kid Friendly" cache, we are stocking it with
trinkets, that hopefully kids in the area will like. As is the
tradition in our area we ask that you "trade even or trade up"!
Update 12/26/09: After AmandaHnK's brother
redheaddude8 got a garmin for Christmas and they went out and
even got a FTF, she now has the bug and is logging caches.
Feb 2010 update: AmandaHnK tells me there is construction at the
Laura Duncan parking area, and it may not be open. Also there may
be Muggle Workers around the area of the cache, but it is still
accessible.
