Geocache Description:

Winding trail along the river.Parking available at the gate of the dam. Cache is downstream!

Norman Dam was built by Keewatin Lumbering and Manufacturing Company in 1893–95. It was planned as an electric power development, but the powerhouse was not constructed until 1924, when a new pulp and paper mill needed additional power. Until then, the dam was used to control lake levels. The Winnipeg River flows 235 kilometers from the Norman Dam in Kenora Ontario, westward to Lake Winnipeg in Manitoba. Lake of the Woods is an immense body of water with 65,000 miles of shoreline and 15,000 islands. Kenora is at the outflow of this lake which drains into the Winnipeg River via The Norman Dam. The inflow is located in Rainy River, Ontario and these two dams (along with others) control the water level of this lake. Cache is a camouflaged peanut butter container. Contains various trade items. Congratulations Muz and Girlie on FTF!
