Stage 1 - Erb a pamätník / Arms and memorial

V blízkosti tohoto stage-u môžete odparkovat svoje vozidlo a môžeme sa s chutou pustit do zbierania indícií. Stojíte na vstupe areálu Pamätníka padlých v 2. svetovej vojne. Oproti nemu je:
In the vicinity of this stage you can park your car and from this point you can embark in collection of indications. You are located at the entrance into the area of Monument to the heroes of the World War II. Opposite is:

Erb obce / Coat of arms of the municipality

Domaniža has retained the original armorial list going back to 1559, which is stored in county archives in Orlove. The coat of arms consists of a silver griffin growing out of silver waves on the blue shield. Griffin means mythical heraldic figure, of which the upper half is eagle and the lower a lion. This figure is mainly found in coat of arms of noble families. Since 1560 the village has had an official seal, which was constructed according to the master list of coats of arms. Imprint of the seal was found on the document of July 31, 1590, which is located in a museum in Kremnica. In addition to this there is also other known seal of the 19th century which shows a griffin flying over a chive. This one is stored in a museum in Trencin.
A - number of flags billowing over coat of arms.

Pamätník padlých v II. svetovej vojne / Monument to the heroes of the World War II

Pamätník padlých    Pamätník stojí medzi vodami na bývalom šianci. V partizánskych bojoch a v koncentracných táboroch zahynulo osem  obcanov Domaniže.
Memorial stands between two creeks. Eight inhabitants of Domaniza were killed during partisan battles and in concentration camps. By the occasion of commemorating the SNP (Slovak National Uprising) 10th anniversary and the victims of liberation of the municipality, in 1955 the local mayor Ladislav Augustin unveiled this memorial.
B is the number of inhabitants who were killed directly in Domaniza. On the way up to Stage 2 you will be passing by the parish and later on the stairs by the Marian column (reference point STLP - column).

(Pocas viacerých stavovských povstaní v 17. a 18. storocí).
This column of gratefulness was built thanks to priest of Domaniza named Goldberger around 1738 during recatolisation - after the defeat of the Protestants, who occupied the church for many years and several times. In those times people had to reorient their roman-catholic faith to protestant (over several uprisings in the 17th and 18th century). In 1605 the Turks with their protestant commander Bockai for the first time settled in Domaniza. The chronicle of Domaniza also  mentions the arrival of protestants in 1682, when the local priest Liskóczi had to hide in forests for three months. The last time protestants occupied the church in 1705. In 1996 the column has been repaired and on the top the statue of Virgin Mary Immaculate has been installed. So since until now the it is called the Marian column.

Stage 2 - Kostol / Church

Rímsko-katolícky kostol Sv. biskupa Mikuláša / Roman-catholic church of bishop St. Nicholas

Roman Catholic church dedicated to St. Nicholas (declared by the Ministry of Culture as a national cultural monument), stands at the foot of Leska hill, near the old cemetery. It is stone-fenced from east to west gate. The fenced served also as a protection for residends. From the northern side the wide marble staircase leads to the church. In written materials one cannot find out about the shape and dimensions of the original roman church. The church had a wooden ceiling, and for centuries has undergone many modifications. This historical monument had been damaged by permanent moistening of masonry and plaster, which ended in serious problems with its statics (several cracks in various parts of the temple). Thanks to the initiative of the parish and parishioners for the fundraising, reconstruction works began to rescue the church. Along with the reconstruction the archeological research is being carried out under the direction of workers from The Monuments Board of the Slovak Republic.
Look for the walled side entrance to the church and make a notice of the era RENO.

Daniel Jaroslav Bórik was born on June 16, 1814 in Sobotiste and died on June 22, 1899 in Domaniža. In 1839 he finished his studies of theology in Vienna. He served as pastor, teacher, civil servant, poet, translator, critic, secretary of Slovak National Council, participant in Slovak  National Uprising l848-9, founding member of Matica Slovenská, he was also involved in the movement for national and social rights of the Slovaks. He was declared ‘pansláv‘ (politically and ideologically oriented movement to unite all slavonic nations under russian czarism) and persecuted. Therefore, he began writing under the pseudonym ‘Danielo Jaroslavovic‘. Later he kept the name Jaroslav. He was also co-organizer of slovak volunteers and participated in military expeditions to Slovakia in 1848.
Borik was also active in literature – he published several articles about the need for education, economic development and others.
In the spring of 1848 he was arrested in Ilava for co-autorship in petition against Magyarization. After three months he escaped from prison to Vienna. He then worked for the railways in Salzburg and later also in Trnava.
He spent his retirement in Domaniža with his son Vladimir, who was head forester with Count Esterházi and lived in the forest in front of the village of Zemianska Zavada.
G is the number of all the lines of text on the cross on his grave. Cemetery is always unlocked. If you have a dog with you, please rather leave him tied at the entrance to the cemetery.

Finál - Svätý Janko / Saint John

Teraz už máte všetky potrebné premenné na vyrátanie finálnych súradníc:
Now that you have all the necessary variables, calculate the final coordinates:
N 49° 02.[ENO - ABR - GB]
E 018° 33.[NOG - BRE + RBE]
You are about to enjoy a walk in a pleasant environment with distance of around 600 meters. It is recommended to start the walk from the church through eastern gate so-called ‘blianka’ (ref. point BRANA), where you can also find toilets. The coordinates will lead you to the last stop:

Soška sv. Jána Nepomúckeho / Statuette of St. John of Nepomuk

Statuette stands at the foot of the hill Haj, the former old road to villages of Domanižska Lehota, Sádocne and Celkova Lehota. Today's asphalt road once did not existed. This cultural historic monument was originally situated on the crossing of road from Domaniža to Fackov (which was for certain period of time subject to parish of Domaniza) and its side cut to Plebány Lehota (today Domanizska Lehota) through Blatnica beneath the Baranie area. This junction was near the swimming pool, where fruit tree was planted instead of sculpture. Many seniors might still remember this tree.
Catholicism, especially after the restoration – recatholisation in the 18th century encouraged also the development of various holidays, decoration of temples, the worship of saints, visits to pilgrimage, and ultimately the spread of Bethlehem plays and carols. These statues and columns were built at almost all surroundings of towns and villages that had their churches. It is estimated that even the statue of St. John of Nepomuk was built around 1738, like the Marian column.
The cache is hidden close to it. Given its size you will certainly have no problems finding it. So breathe deeply and clear your lungs! The air there is indeed "heavenly".
