Geocache Description:

A still standing, but boarded up, school building with two nearby auxiliary buildings (aka outhouses). These latter two facilities are in need of renovation.

The school district was named after the Halifax Ranch Company which set up shop in the area during the late 1800s. The school opened in 1926 and was one of the later rural school districts in the Pincher Creek area (there were a total of 41 altogether) to start its educational services. It operated until 1960 when it was permanently closed due to the consolidation of the rural schools. Grades one through eight were taught in Halifax School as was the case with most rural schools. The number of students who attended school at Halifax would have varied each year but usually there would have been one to four students in each grade meaning that usually there were up to 25 or so students enrolled in the school annually.

Most of the above detail comes from a book entitled "Unfolding The Pages" (Pincher Creek: Gorman & Gorman, 1992, Chapter 17, "Halifax #3925, pp. 83-86). My thanks to Farley Wuth, Curator, at KBPV for supplying this information.
