"Best Cache By A Dam Site" Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

Yogi942: I am afraid that this one did not even last a month. However, at tleast this time it was nature that took its toll, not muggles. It looks like the branch it was secure to snapped in the wind and the cache must have gone floating down stream. I hate to give up this wonderful piece of nostalgia. Maybe I can find another dam somewhere else that is looking for a cache to make it famous.

Geocache Description:

This cache is named from the fond memories of a special place back in the Boston area. The Wayside Country Store, built in 1790 and restored by Henry Ford in 1928 was referred to by Mr. Ford as the 'Best Country Store by a Dam Site'.

This was truly a magical place. Walking through the doors, you stepped back in time. One would image that if they looked back out through the door, they would see the horse drawn buggies lined up instead of cars. We would go there on Sundays after church to buy fresh baked Portuguese Sweet Bread. Most times, the bread was still too hot to slice so we had to wait around surrounded by nostalgia.

Of course there was always the difficult decision of which of the penny candies the kids wanted. Mom's favorite was the bull's eyes. I would get the chocolate covered raisins.

The store was placed next to a dam that created a pond, that provided water power to the local Gristmill, which ground the flour for the bread served at the reception at the Wayside Inn, for the couple that were married in the Martha & Mary Chapel, whose grandparents might have attended classes in the Little Red School House. When you are in the Sudbury/Marlborough, MA area, this collection of historic and restored landmarks, sponsored by Henry Ford is a must visit. Besides the area is peppered with Multi's, Mystery's and Traditionals.

There is an obvious connection between the store and this cache. Thus the name and the tug on the old memory cords. It is a short walk from on street parking to find a bison tube.

Congratulations to Mwbeers on being FTF!!
