Geocache Description:

NOTE: Serious geocachers carry their own tools. There may or may not be a pen in the cache!

This cache is hidden as a companion cache to the AFL Grand Final cache nearby. Unlike that cache, there are no special logging requirements for this cache - anyone may find and log it. I just wanted to have another cache in this great park for people to find when they complete the AFL series.

This cache is in tribute to former Saint Kilda midfielder [and current Collingwood assistant coach] Robert Harvey, my favorite player in the Australian Football League. It should tell you something about how special Harvey is when I tell you he never played for either of my favorite teams but is still my favorite player.

Harvey was never the tallest, or the fastest, or the most gifted player on the field, but he was a coaches' dream. He could run all day, he played hard from opening bounce to final siren, he had incredible accuracy with the short pass, and he always played with great courage. He also played 17 years, a rare feat in the very physical AFL game. Best of all, he embraces his position as a role model and gives back selflessly to the community.

Harvey ended his 17-year career in 2008 with 383 total games, the third highest total in the 150 year history of the AFL. He won the Brownlow medal [the AFL MVP award] twice during his career, and was named to the All-Australian team eight times in an 11 year period at the peak of his career.
