You will hopefully find an unusual, fragile container so please don't drop it. The tube should NOT be removed - it has a small bottle in it which should be left as this will help finders removed the log roll.
It was originally placed on Eagle's Rock at the top of the stone staircase, up behind the West Bromwich Mountaineering Club Hut, but this was too close to the final part of The Sheep Skull for it to be listed. So I re-sited it close to a lovely old bridge over the Afon Llynedno where it crashes down to join the Glaslyn. At the time a much easier spot to reach being at the side of a public footpath.
Sadly erosion has taken its toll and the bridge is now in a dodgy condition. (See images in my log of Dec 2019)
So, although, there is parking in the layby on the A498 just beyond Plas Gwynant Lodge at the foot of The Watkin Path from where one could walk (but not drive) up the tarmac road towards the cache,, this route is no longer recommended as it involves crossing the bridge.
It is better to drive on a bit farther south on the B498 and turn off left to Llyndy Isaf and walk left to where the track bends. Here.a path goes down to the cache, which you can access without crossing the bridge, although there still may be fencing and warning signs around. The only danger from this side is falling into the river from the bank which you can do anywhere if you are not careful!
Although the cache container is quite large the space for the log roll is small and you will need to bring your own pen.
If you are interested in good viewsand want some more excitement, The Sheep Skull cache at Eagles Rock has now been archived so I have been able to set up another there which should enable folk to discover a fine old stone staircase which leads to the base of the Crag, where there's a 'natural' rock picnic table and seats. The crag was previously used for abseiling practice by Sandwell Outdoors Centre (Plas Gwynant) and members of West Bromwich Mountaineering Club (and no doubt many other climbers). However, it is now gradually being overgrown by Rhodedendrons but there is still a fine view from the summit. If you do go to this site, please take care of young geocachers as there are large drops and fissures..
A big THANK YOU to Doctor Death 767 for replacing a soggy log sheet with a fresh one in June 2019 after someone had lost the inner cap. Your help is much appreciated.
