Geocache Description:

This EarthCache takes you on a hike in the Palm Desert/Rancho Mirage area up a trail commonly known to locals as the "Bump & Grind". This is used as a recreational trail for cardio workouts and walking dogs and affords amazing panoramic views.

The coordinates take you to a parking lot for the "Bump and Grind" Trail. This EarthCache is in the San Jacinto Mountains. This mountain system is a batholith formed where the Pacific Plate slides under the North American plate but exposed roughly 95 million years ago. Volcanoes form at subduction zones such as these. Magma that rises to the surface and cools very slowly forms features called plutons. Plutons are solid granite and collectively referred to as a batholith.

From the top of this mountain in this range you can look down into the Coachella Valley.
