Geocache Description:

An easy park and grab just off Bradner Rd. A small camo with log and a few small trade items. No room for writing instrument please bring your own.

This cache has been muggled in the past please rehide carefully exactly where it was found.

This is the 5th in a series of eight caches at pump stations found all over the city. These caches have been placed with the knowledge & consent of the City of Abbotsford Engineering Dept. The neighbour is aware of the cache.

The Buchanan pump station is a non-descript building that I’m sure most people drive by without taking any notice. Be careful you could do the same.

Right now, 80 per cent of Abbotsford and Mission are served by Norrish Creek, which flows from Dickson Lake in the mountains northeast of Mission. This supply is bolstered by Cannell Lake – located directly north of Mission – and 17 wells in Abbotsford.

The system currently provides up to 156 mega litres per day (MLD), but can only comfortably handle 140 MLD. That puts the system close to capacity on hot summer days. One mega litre equals one million litres.

Because the 12 reservoirs serving Abbotsford refill overnight (from Norrish Creek and from the 17 wells), the city only needs to worry about its peak daily water consumption.

PEAK WATER USAGE IN ABBOTSFORD

2010 - 106 MLD on July 26
2009 - 114 MLD on July 18.
2008 - 115 MLD on July 15. Average (June 1 to Sept. 22) - 88.5 MLD
2007 - 137.12 MLD on July 22 and 23. Average was 94.1 MLD
2006 - 139.2 MLD on July 12. Average was 97.4 MLD
